Question by Danny G: Full tilt poker strategy help?
Ok everybody, I am a pretty decent texas holdem player. I always play tourneys, and rarely cash game. The problem is, when I play tourneys, I can never stick to one good strategy to win. One tournament I will play aggressive, another tourney i will play tight (I.E. limp in with AA, AK, AQ, KK, QQ, AJ). Can any one suggest a strategy they use, or perhaps one that is very solid that you know of????

Best answer:

Answer by SatanzSista
Well the description of a “Shark” is Tight-Aggressive… Selective with cards pre-flop and aggressive with good hands. You should be aggressive when you hit a good hand. Even if everyone folds.. wouldn’t you rather take the pot now than risk losing it later? You don’t have to stick to one strategy every time you play… the trick is to play the opposite way the rest of the table is playing. If everyone is playing tight… bluff them off the pot… if everyone is aggressive.. sit back and let them knock each other out. Good Luck!

Question by Iknowsomestuff: Poker Strategy for Tournament Tonight?
I have been playing Texas Holdem for a very long time and I know the basics very well. Im in a $ 50 buy in tournament tonight and I was wondering what a good strategy might be. I think the max ammount of players is 30.

Best answer:

Answer by ZCT
The strategy will be determined by the number of starting chips, size of the blinds, and the speed the blinds increase. There are a lot of other factors too, but in the absence of any other information I’d start with that.

But as a general rule hang back for the first couple of blind levels only playing premium hands. Once you’ve established a tight image get more aggressive and bluff and steal a little more, in the later blind levels.

No Limit Texas Holdem Tournament Strategy – Winning Vs Aggressive Players in Order to Make a Profit

Winning against a skilled aggressive player can be very tough. They’ll back you into corners and force you to make tough decisions – Or get slowly eaten away by their blind stealing. Here we’ll discuss when to re-raise, when to play tight and how to vary your game based on where you are in the tournament.

When to Re-Raise

First off, don’t both defending your blinds in the early game. If a hyper aggressive player wants to steal 30 chip blinds early, let him do it.

When the blinds get worth defending, then it’s time to make a choice. If you’re in the blinds, re-raising him may be a great idea. In fact, you may even want to re-raise more often than not.

Be careful that even if you’re loose with your raises, you play tight post-flop. If he calls your raise, chances are he has something. If you’re holding blanks, don’t go bluffing post flop.

Don’t Get Pushed Around

It’s fine to let go of blinds early, but in mid and late game it’ll really hurt if you don’t start pushing back.

Most players will wait only for good hands to raise or re-raise. Every once in a while, it’s fine to re-raise with nothing. Playing too tight late game against an aggressive player is a recipe for disaster.

Tight Aggressive vs. Tight Aggressive in the Late Game

Late in the tournament, it’s generally tight aggressive players who’ve survived thus far. At this point, you’re likely against several tight aggressive players.

If they’re playing very tight, you can loosen up and try to steal the blinds. Otherwise, at this point you’re playing on reads.

Play a little looser and a little more aggressive pre-flop. Always play tight post-flop. Don’t try to bluff a hand just because you raised pre-flop and got called, especially if you’re short stacked.

Being loose is a great way to combat them being tight. Steal their money from hands they’re not willing to play. On the other hand, getting aggressive and fighting back is the only way to combat them being aggressive.

Playing advanced Texas Holdem tournament’s may just be the best way to become super-rich playing poker. This is because to make a lot, and I mean millions, of dollars from cash games generally you have to play in the high rollers games, and that costs a lot of money.

But with a tournament you can pay an entry fee of maybe five or ten thousand and take home millions – now that’s what I call leverage.

But developing and implementing a successful Holdem strategy isn’t always easy. So these advanced Texas Holdem tips will definitely help you.

Advanced Texas Holdem Tournament Strategy Tip #1

The first tip is to model what works. Instead of designing and developing your own strategy just find out what everyone else is using to win and copy that. There are many books and courses that reveal all and turn you from a poker-zero to an absolute-hero in no time flat. Or, you can filter through page upon page of free info and put the pieces together yourself, however this can take some time.

Advanced Texas Holdem Tournament Strategy Tip #2

Make sure the strategy fits in with your personality. What I mean by this is, if the strategy requires you to constantly make moves and play in a way that you aren’t comfortable with your likelihood of success goes down.

If you are risk averse you probably won’t do very well with a loose-aggressive-all-in tournament strategy. On the other hand, if you love to constantly be playing and can deal with the ups and downs, you might get bored with a super-tight strategy.

Advanced Texas Holdem Tournament Strategy Tip #3

Practice and practice and get it to work. Most players find a strategy, play it, lose, decide the strategy sucks, find a new one, play it, lose with that, decide that sucks to, and repeat. They come to the conclusion that all these free strategies on the net suck and don’t work and it’s all a load of hooey.

Or, maybe, they suck. Not that they really suck but they just didn’t take the time and effort to make the strategy work. They didn’t practice and fine tune just like you have to do with anything – absolutely anything. So my final advice is to get a strategy, practice it and get it to work, or at least stick with it long enough to test it properly.

Now, I’m sure you are realizing that there is a lot more to developing a winning Texas Holdem tournament strategy. These tips are a kind of ‘second-level’ tip which help you get the right strategy, without going in to ‘play these cards, bet this’ detail. If you want that detail I suggest you continue searching for and find that information.

Opportunities to learn more advanced Texas Holdem strategies are everywhere. You just have to be aware and take them!
